Psychologists are often labelled by a variety of not-so-flattering names, such as nutcases, shrinks and head shrinkers... I like to think I’m a little different.  I’m not here to shrink your head – but rather to expand your mind.

I believe I can help you develop your sense of self. To understand why you do the things you do, to build your inter-personal skills, improve your self-esteem, and help you to establish and maintain successful business and social relationships. In short, I want to develop your YOU-Q!

My Approach

If you are reading this, you probably know something about psychology and the different approaches psychologists use in therapy.

I use an eclectic approach in my work - using the best approach for a particular client, based on their particular challenge and set of circumstances.

I draw mostly from Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Existential approaches. I also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Theory, Transactional Analysis, Systems Theory, and am fascinated by Attachment Theory.

Private Practice

I run my private practice from my home in Kloof, Durban, South Africa. This involves:

  • Face to face counselling and therapy with individuals and couples
  • ‘Remote’ counselling with individuals in other parts of the world (talking to them via Skype)

I work with adults, and have experience and an interest in working in the following areas:

  • Anger management
  • Depression
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Interpersonal skills development – EQ skills, communication skills, assertiveness, conflict and negotiation
  • Personal growth – helping people live more effectively
  • Relationships – giving couples the communication and interpersonal skills to enhance and strengthen their relationship
  • Retirement – planning retirement from a psychological perspective
  • Retrenchment – helping individuals adapt to retrenchment and view the future as a new opportunity
  • Self-esteem counselling – helping individuals improve the way they see themselves
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Trauma counselling – counselling after accidents, or crime-related incidents such as hi-jackings, muggings, home invasions etc.

What's it About?

Fine china, properly-made tea, dainty eats and stimulating conversation - that’s me to a T(ea)!

Tea With Claire is a fresh new concept I’ve launched, aimed at bringing groups of ladies and gents together over perfectly poured cups of tea and plates of delicious treats. This is a morning which is far more than merely a cup of tea, it’s an opportunity to be inspired and motivated by Claire as she provides insight on a variety of topics.

Come as you are or dress up to the nines (even wear a hat - as Claire, herself, is a hat-lover) and enter a world far removed from the humdrum of everyday life where elegance and refinement is the name of the game.

Join me

Bring your friends or clients to tea with me. Tea With Claire is a fabulous way to spend a special morning with your friends, colleagues or to entertain your clients without fuss or bother. Bring them to tea - it's all laid on for you ready to enjoy in an atmosphere of elegance and refinement.

Each event takes place from 10am - 12pm.

Darjeeling Tea-son

Thursday 17 September 2015 - Audacia Manor (11 Sir Arthur Road, Durban) - To Thine Own Self Be True: The Confident YOU!
Cancelled! Unfortunately, Audacia Manor cancelled the venue at the last minute.

Invite me

If you already have an occasion planned, and are looking for that extra bit of something fresh and different, invite me to join you at your venue.

Perhaps you would like to:

  • Treat your staff members to a morning designed especially for them. It’s a great way to entertain them with something a little different and it only means a couple of hours away from the office.
  • Do something special for your clients – Tea With Claire can be tailor-made to suit your requirements.
  • Create an event that really appeals to women. Instead of the usual sports entertainment where the ladies have to tag along to man’s event, host a Tea With Claire which they will really enjoy!
  • Liven up and bring something extra to your fundraising event. Tea With Claire is the ideal solution.

So, if an hour or so of informal yet insightful discussion with an experienced professional  sounds like your cup of tea, invite me to join you!

Popular Talks

Some of the more popular topics people ask me to talk on include:

  • Body Language for Confidence
  • Mastering the art of Conversation
  • ToThine own Self be True - the Confident You!
  • You-Q: Finding Your Inner Winner

Why Tea With Claire?

I am an avid tea-lover – not only of the drink itself, but of the whole ritual involved in its making, brewing and serving, and of the rewarding social interaction that often accompanies this ritual.

After water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. While the first recorded drinking of tea is in China, drinking tea as a fashionable event is credited to Catherine of Braganza, who brought a casket of tea with her from Portugal when she arrived in England in 1652 to marry Charles II.

In her book, 'A Social History of Tea', Jane Pettigrew says that “Tea was generally consumed within a lady’s closet or bedchamber and for a mainly female gathering.”

This tradition continues to this day, although we’ve thankfully moved out of the bedroom as a predominant venue!

I’m excited to launch Tea With Claire - a fresh new concept, which combines the warm and friendly social aspect of tea-drinking with something a little different. It’s tea - with a twist!

As a psychologist, I’m acutely aware of how beneficial the sharing of experiences can be. But, this sharing doesn’t only have to happen within the confines of formal counselling. Coming together with friends, colleagues and clients in an elegant but relaxed environment to enjoy the social ritual of tea drinking and listen to a enlightening, interesting and inspiring talk is what Tea With Claire is all about.

Tea-sons

The Tea With Claire events are run in seasons (which, for fun, I call Tea-sons). Each Tea-son is named after a different blend of tea.

Corporate Entertainment

Looking for different ways to entertain your clients, associates or team?

Tea With Claire is the ideal solution as it provides a special morning’s entertainment with a minimum of fuss or bother on your part.

 You have two options:

Take a table at a scheduled public event

Bring your clients, associates and team to tea with me. It's all laid on for you ready to enjoy in an atmosphere of elegance and refinement. This is a morning which is far more than merely a cup of tea, it’s an opportunity to be inspired and motivated by Claire as she provides insight on a variety of topics.

Not only are these topics entertaining and inspiring, but your guests will walk away with new insights and often feeling highly motivated.

There is no specific dress code, but this is an opportunity to dress up to the nines! Why not encourage your guests to wear hats - Claire, herself, is a hat lover - and enter a world far removed from the humdrum of everyday life where elegance and refinement is the name of the game.

Host your own exclusive event

Claire would be delighted to address your guests with your choice of topic.

You can even create an event that really appeals to women. Instead of the usual sports entertainment where the ladies have to tag along to man’s event, host a Tea With Claire which they will really enjoy!

As your Business or Life Coach, I won’t help you throw and catch balls on the sports field, but I will help you deal with the curve balls life throws your way. With a little bit of coaching, you’ll be able to create your own solutions, arrive at your own answers, and discover options for yourself. In short, you will find your direction in life.

My Approach

I am a certified Business and Executive Coach. I offer coaching to people who might be uncomfortable with the idea of formal counselling or psychotherapy, or who would simply like to improve their life with the help of a Life or Business Coach. I am able to use my skill and experience as a practicing psychologist, while still retaining a distinction between Coach and Psychologist or Coaching and Therapy, if that is what is required.

Coaching helps people create their own solutions, arrive at their own answers, and discover options for themselves. The ultimate aim of my coaching is to make you feel empowered and valuable, confident, secure and filled with new options. This aim is based on the belief that promoting this kind of creativity is far more likely produce lasting change in your life

My coaching is based on my desire to help others to discover what they want in life (in every area of their life) and unlock their innate (but often undiscovered) brilliance in order to achieve it. It is more than just solving problems. I want to help you go beyond your vision of yourself – beyond what you have and do, to who you are (creative, intelligent, loving, generous etc). You are a human being, not a human-having or a human-doing!

As a coach (and psychologist), I have developed the concept of YOU-Q - the term I use to describe your unique intelligence, creativity and wisdom. By developing your YOU-Q, you can find your Inner Winner and live a Be-YOU-tiful life right now. I take clients on the YOU-Q journey, which involves focusing on three areas:

  • Get Real - This involves becoming authentic, genuine and totally true to you. To achieve this requires answering three important questions - What are my values? What is my purpose? What is my vision?
  • Change Your Head Talk - Head Talk is that inner voice which constantly gives us negative messages.  Changing your Head Talk means changing these negative beliefs and transforming the unhelpful messages you give yourself.
  • Relate - By learning essential communication and interpersonal skills, you will radically enhance your relationships with others.

I want you to leave every coaching session full of renewed energy. I want to inspire your creativity and expand your possibilities - life can be 10 times better than it is now. You can find freedom from suffering and grudging self-discipline. Live an awesome life by staying light-hearted and taking actions that seem almost effortless.

I want to help you enjoy deep intimacy, vibrant health, full celebration and daily ecstasy. I want you to be able to say: Today I am living the life of my dreams."

  • Face-to-face coaching with individuals and couples.
